Academic Editing

Academic Editing is for manuscripts where the research is sound but the writing does not yet do it justice. Common signs are sentences that need a second reading, paragraphs that do not connect, or a reviewer comment such as "the manuscript would benefit from language editing".

Your editor works through the text line by line and does more than correct errors. They restructure sentences that are hard to follow, split long ones, and replace vague wording with precise terms. They also adjust the register: informal phrasing becomes academic, and overstated claims are hedged where the evidence calls for it ("this proves" becomes "these results suggest"). Between paragraphs, the editor adds or strengthens transitions so each step of your argument follows from the last.

Editors are matched to your subject area, so discipline-specific terminology is respected rather than "corrected". A clinical paper, an econometrics study and a philosophy chapter each have their own conventions, and your editor knows which phrasings are standard in your field.

Every change is made in tracked changes, so you can accept or reject each one. Where the editor is unsure what you meant, they leave a comment instead of guessing. You also receive an editor's report that summarises the main types of change and points out patterns worth watching in your future writing.

This service is used most often for journal manuscripts (first submission or resubmission), PhD and Master's theses, book chapters and grant proposals. It is especially useful for authors writing in English as an additional language, and for native speakers whose paper must be as clear as possible for a demanding journal.
