Abstract Editing

About This Service

The abstract is the first part of your work that editors, reviewers and conference committees read, and often the only part. A journal editor may decide whether to send a paper for review largely on the abstract, and many readers who find your article in a database will never go past it. In under 300 words it has to state what you did, what you found and why it matters.

Abstract Editing focuses on exactly that. Your editor corrects grammar, spelling and punctuation, but most of the work is about compression and emphasis:

• Concision: phrases like "it was found that" and "in order to" are cut so every word carries information.
• Emphasis: the main finding is stated clearly and early, not buried in the final sentence.
• Structure: in a structured abstract, each section (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions) does its job; in an unstructured one, the sentence order follows the same logic.
• Word limit: the abstract is brought within the limit you give us.
• Consistency: figures and claims match those in the body of your paper, and abbreviations are minimised and defined.

Send your title and keywords with the abstract and they are checked for language as well.

Abstract Editing suits journal submissions, conference abstract deadlines, thesis abstracts and grant summaries. Because abstracts are short, the 24-Hour option is available when a conference deadline is close.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Abstract Editing service.

Yes. State the limit when you order. The editor trims wording without removing results or methods you need to report.

Yes. Tell us the required headings (for example Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions, or the journal's own) and the editor will make sure each section contains what it should.

If the full paper is being edited with Academic Editing, the abstract is included. Order Abstract Editing on its own when only the abstract is needed, for example for a conference submission or when the paper itself has already been edited.

Abstracts are short, so all four options are available, including 24-Hour delivery for urgent conference deadlines.
